Malmark
founder, Jake Malta, dead at 91 AGEHR – IA is sad to
share this news of the death of a legend in the handbell industry.
From Tim Schuback, Vice President/GM of Malmark, Inc.:
It is with a heavy heart and much regret that Malmark, Inc writes to inform
you of the passing of our Founder and President, Jake Malta. Jake passed
away Monday night August 9th peacefully at his home in New Britain, Pa. He
was 91 years old. Jake’s contributions to the handbell world are many and
great. He founded Malmark, Inc. in 1973 after spending almost a decade as
Schulmerich’s chief designer and engineer. To this day Jake is responsible
for the design of all of Malmark’s handbells and Choirchime instruments as
well as the innovative production methods employed by the company to produce
them.
Jake worked diligently over the years to design extended ranges of handbells.
So much so he pioneered and patented the use of aluminum as a material for
handbell design and production. Furthermore, he designed the Choirchime
Instrument and worked tirelessly to extend the range of these instruments as
well. As a testament to his foresight and design Malmark is the only
company that offers Choirchime instruments in the lower 6th and 7th
octaves. To this day Malmark remains the world’s foremost producer of
English Handbells and Choirchime Instruments.
In 1994, Jake was named an Honorary Life Member of the American Guild of
English Handbell Ringers for his contributions to the art of handbell
ringing. He was a man of unmatched talent whose character and determination
revolutionized the handbell world.
Jake is survived by brothers Phillip & Edward (Margaret) of Wilkes-Barre,
PA, his daughters Lora Mohr of Bedminster, PA and Joann Malta of New
Britain, PA , grandchildren Erin Schuback (Tim) of Philadelphia, PA and
Derek Mohr (Adrienne) of Bedminster, PA, and great grandchildren Mia Mohr
and Shane Schuback.
A viewing will be held at Shelly Funeral Home, Plumsteadville, PA on Monday
August 16th from 2pm to 4pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Doylestown Hospital or St. Mary
Antiochian Orthodox Church at 905 South Main St. Wilkes-Barre PA, 18702.

NOTE FOR SUBMITTING WEBSITE ITEMS ...... from your friendly webmaster! Please send an email containing your release or item to webmaster@agehr-ia.org or one of the committee members IN THE EXACT WORDING THAT YOU WANT TO APPEAR ON THE WEBSITE. If you send bits and pieces scattered within an email, and leave it to the webmaster to actually compose the final wording, you are trusting ME to figure out what is to be said, with an unknown degree of accuracy because I am guessing at what you meant....and it takes longer to get it posted if I have to do it.. Attach JPEG pictures as you wish, we are glad to include those.......thanks, webmaster
ILLINOIS AGEHR WEBSITE NAME HIJACKED by a Russian pornographic site (!) operator. Note that our LINKS page shows the new site name, www.ilagehr.org. For all you webmasters out there, this is unfortunately a hard-learned lesson in what has become a popular tactic: porn site operators watch the internet domain sites for domain names (such as the old Illinois domain name, agehr-il) to expire, and then quickly snap them up for a few dollars a year and use the previously established site names to get traffic to their porn sites. And once you lose the domain name to someone else, there is usually not much you can do. Unfortunately, it appears that the Illinois webmaster was just a day or two late renewing their domain name for the next year....and the rest is history. So if you want to read about bells in Illinois, note the new website name.
NEW!!! By popular demand, we have added a "JOBS" section listing the available bell employment in the greater Iowa area. Check the listings for opportunities, and if you have positions to post, send them in care of Carolyn.
